Matildas Came Close, But So Did One Nation

22 March, 2026

Hello friends, I figure I'd write the blog first and work backwards, the contents to this opening paragraph will come to me...

Matilda's Come Second in the Women's Asia Cup

Last night Australia played in the Women's Asia Cup finals, the Tillys fought valiantly but with a blindsighted goal from Japan early in the first half it was just too much of a uphill slog to contend with. Like our Socceroos some 20 years ago, it did feel like a once in a generation opportunity to be crowned victors of a major cup, despite the outcome being all but determined already. Japan are a disciplined side and were always the favourite to take out the cup, but such is the Aussie underdog, Bradbury did it, hell the winged keel did it!

At the end of the day, our Matilda's is deserving of nothing less than absolute praise for doing Australia proud.

One Nation Has Credibility In Numbers If Nothing Else

A less popular underdog story is the imminent return of One Nation, while the Liberal party canibalises itself at a state and federal level in levels previously unseen in our modern 2 party system. For the uninitiated, One Nation is a right wing party that focuses on division at any means - normal racist means.

Sure they're not going to secure a large number of seats, but it's the 20% primary vote, it's the neck and neck 52-48 polling when you account for preferences. They may not be collecting seats yet, but there certainly is a precedent set by polling and now, an actual state election...

I recall speaking to an Aussie ex-pat in Berlin back in 2016 thinking how far Germany had gone since... well you know, with Trump sitting his first tenure and Pauline Hanson securing the first One Nation senate spot in donkeys years, the future seemed uncertain, yet unlikely of anything catastropically awful happening. Last night Australia got a step closer to an unsightly future.

Australian Film Is 6 Months Behind The World

I've been catching up on movies, however the timing has been out of my hands. Arco has only just come to the Silver Screen and... look I'll be honest I didn't register If I Had Legs I'd Kick You when it came out, it took until awards season an appearance on a streaming app (Stan) that I took real notice. Both films happen to strike different moods, Arco is very close to a Ghibli movie in tone - even in environmental themes.

If I Had Legs is not a Safdie movie, stop saying it's Uncut Gems for women. People seem to enjoy these stress filled movies with non-conventionally casted actors. What if the world's biggest comedy podcaster was the driest psychologist? A$AP Rocky can act.

I Swear, I Swear is good. It seems being into films in Australia is the knowledge that you'll always be behind, but you can catch up.

In a time where I'm basically moving between a small, bigger and biggest screen. Having an even bigger one at a place of inconvenience but affordable enough to endulge in and most importantly engage in is a welcome break to my week. Work takes it out of you, and I want some back.

I Ran Out Of Time To Discuss Games or Music

It happens.

Hopefully you stick around next week, hopefully I have something new to say by then.
